About us
Established in 2001, The Armenian Institute (Հայ Հիմնարկ) is a thriving cultural centre that fosters dialogue and connection between the UK and Armenia, the worldwide Armenian diaspora, and the cultures of its wider historical neighbours. Located in the heart of London in a space generously provided by the Tanielian family, the Institute collaborates with a diverse range of artists, craftspeople, writers, academics, teachers, and community leaders to deepen our understanding and awareness of Armenian culture. We host thought-provoking events, including talks, workshops and music performances, we deliver Armenian language classes to adults, and produce podcasts, publications and digital periodicals.
At the core of the Institute lies Europe’s most accessible library and archival collection focused on the history, geography, arts and literature of Armenia and its historical neighbours. Spurring from the personal library of the first Calouste Gulbenkian Professor of Armenian Studies at University of Oxford, the collection continues to expand and develop with contributions from other distinguished donors. All the books and resources are available for reference to all visitors.
We are a non-affiliated, independent organisation. The Armenian Institute is a Registered Charity in England and Wales (1088410).
